Airport Frankfurt-Hahn – the Job motor

One of the most significant airports of Germany has originated from the erstwhile US Air Base Hahn within a period of few years. The shareholders of the Airport Frankfurt-Hahn GmbH; the federal states of Rhineland-Palatiante (82.5%) and Hesse (17.5%), can be very satisfied with this development. With 3,939,232 Passengers in the year 2008, the Hunrueck-airport has risen to the position of the tenth largest German airport. In the same timeframe, the transhipment of 338,490 tonnes of airfreight (including road transport) has achieved the fourth position among the airports in Germany. Some low-cost carriers with the Irish airline Ryanair, leading the way, having the intention to station 18 machines on the airport Hahn up to 2012; dominate the passenger air traffic.

Extensive investments in the infrastructure of the airport have laid the foundation for its function as a “Job motor” for the whole region. Many thousands of new jobs are created at the site and in the periphery. In the future too, this development, accompanied by further investments in figures of three digit millions, is likely to proceed and lay impulses for the economy in a large vicinity around the Hahn-Airport.
